Add a CommentVery enjoyable sad/humourous film based on an autobiography by Nigel Slater. // As usual, Helena Bonham Carter does an outstanding job playing a quirky character, the out-of-her-league Mrs Potter who gets both what she wants (in the short term) and what she (ultimately, we presume) deserves. // Freddie Highmore (older and taller than in August Rush) gives an excellent understated performance as the hard-done-by teen Nigel. // Except for a brief interview with the real Nigel (who has a cameo in the film), the extra features don't add much.
I really enjoyed this movie. Helena Bonham Carter was awesome.
wait a min ! did i mention that to you i am gay today ??
I thought this was an enjoyable movie! Set in 1950s Britain, it is the story of Nigel Slater who ends up being a famous British food journalist (and critic?). His mother can not cook and resorts to hot toast with melted butter for dinner when everything else is burned, while Nigel dreams of 50's exotic menu items like spaghetti bolognese! I thought Helena bonham carter was great!
I have no idea who the chef, Nigel, is, but it was interesting to see what he went through growing up and how he became a chef.
