Set against the backdrop of the succession of Queen Elizabeth I, and the Essex Rebellion against her, intrigue and suspense advance the theory that it was really Edward De Vere, Earl of Oxford, who penned Shakespeare's plays.

Add a CommentReally boring....no action in it whatsoever. Pressed play and was waiting for it to get good but it just never took off!!! I agree completley with Monolith zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz all the way through!!!
Loved it! Well acted, well paced story and I am not even a huge Shakespeare fan.
...popcorn......check......okay......press.......play.................*yawn*................zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Taken as a piece of speculative fiction, the complex plot, excellent acting, staging of the plays, and realities of Elizabethan life (bad teeth and filthy streets) were all highly enjoyable. However. Shakespeare a drunken illiterate, Elizabeth I a mother of multiple bastard children, and the real author a semi-banished noble and father of one of Elizabeth's sons were all a bit far fetched. Watch it to enjoy the acting and recreation of life at court and in the streets.
Guys, hey it was nice. I mean yeah really confusing. My friends who are mostly horror movie fans were bored, they thought it would be like woah! Killer! but no sorry. It was nice some parts were like, what the heck is going on??? O.o at the end i finally figured what was going on. Though I did not understand why Queen Elizabeth was involved in some random scenes... maybe that's just me :P Watch it but make sure your the person who actually knows what's going on in a movie.
Skip It - Anonymous (2011) 130 min. Speculative biopic of William Shakespeare takes the position that Sir William never wrote any of the masterpieces he's been credited with writing. O.k. I could watch speculative fiction but this? The only scenes that shine are those on stage - it's a greatest hits of Shakespeare's work. All other scenes (and there are many) are confusing, uninspired and unfortunately, dull.
A stellar performance from the cast! The story seems credible but it surely alters the whole literary history with a crushing thud! Worthy of its Oscar (Costume Design) and possibly should have been with the screenplay.
I got the movie for my father who exclaimed to me after he watched it: "excellent movie (twice)?"
I totally agree with Triple_M's comments/advise. If you are a Shakespearean fan, you'll like this movie, otherwise have a nice pillow nearby when you watch it.
At 2 hours and 10 minutes, this is quite a long movie. If you like Shakespeare and medieval drama you'll probably like this. I found it somewhat boring, but I'm not a fan of drama. Watch the first ten or twenty minutes and if you don't like it you can turn it off as it carries on in the same manner throughout.
