Add a CommentIt was O.K for a home TV movie. I was entertained and interesting. But it was NOT worth the long library wait or the price to rent from a Red Box. "I fast forwarded a lot but not all the way.”
Surprisingly solid remake. Remains pretty faithful to the original but changes the setting to Mississippi. Tries its hardest to offer characters with complex motivations.
One of the worst remakes in film history...avoid at all costs...I wish I had the time back I wasted watching this.... Some films should be left alone, just like Buillitt (Steve McQueen), how could you pull it off? You can't, leave it alone. The early 70's classic is far superior, they should have used this bomb in Afghanistan....
not what I had expected. I had not seen the original. The actors were great. Boring story, with a disturbing incident in the middle, and then a pointless violent ending. This is one of those movies were I am sure the book was great. I'm sure if we actually knew what the characters were thinking, it would have been a great deal better.
Well... when you're trying to remake a "classic" - you know half your audience is already thinking: "Impossible"... so now you have to work on the other half - just to get them to meet you more than half-way on the value of what 'newness' you bring to the screen... or are you in sinc with enough of the "classic" that you can at least come close to not turning 'everyone' off... Well... count me in the group that thinks this movie succeeds in both those last two areas! It's radically different in setting and style: This ain't English countryside commoners - as in the original - this is U.S. bone fide hill-billy heaven! And it carries that off, successfully! But it also follows quite faithfully, the original script, in temperment and violence... the slow build-up to really set the climactic explosive ending of both emotions and actions... with a denoument that leaves you thinking... "yeah... that's pretty much how I remember it... but with Dustin Hoffman doing all that damage - in his prime!" ...Pity there weren't any bagpipes on that 33&1/3 record in this one, though! That was REAL mahem music!!! lol
Very slow except for maybe the last 15 minutes.
dont argue with the story ! but WHY????/
Very disappointed with this move. I like both the lead male & female actors, but his re-make was a total waste of time. Found it rather disturbing.
Nothing, no time, no where and no how is going to take the place of the original version of this flick. Sam Peckinpah and Dustin Hoffman own this title and this piece of hillbilly trash should never have been filmed. No star, no way.
Started off kind of slow and then started getting good halfway through the movie. Good movie overall.
