Quotes
Add a QuoteAubrey Cheever: "How many people are gonna die?" Dr. Ellis Cheever: "Well, in 1918, one percent of the population died from Spanish Flu. It was - novel, like this. No one had ever seen it before." Aubrey Cheever: "One percent of America?" Dr.Ellis Cheever: "One percent of the world. As many as seventy million people could die, baby, maybe more."
Dr. Ellis Cheever (referencing the nurses strike): "We're just putting healthy people next to sick people and hoping that the healthy people don't get sick."
TV Anchor: "On your blog, you also wrote that the World Health Organization... is somehow 'in bed' with pharmaceutical companies - " Alan Krumwiede: "Because they are. That's who stands to gain from this. They're working 'hand in glove'. And the 'hand' is reaching into our pockets…"
Dr. Ellis Cheever: "I think what Mr. Krumwiede is spreading is far more dangerous than the disease."
Alan Krumwiede: "On 'Day One', there were two people with it. And then, there were four. And then it was sixteen. And you think you've got it in front of you. But next it's two hundred and fifty six, and then it's sixty five thousand, and it's behind you, and above you, and all around you. In thirty steps, it's a billion sick. Three months. It's a math problem you can do on a napkin. And that's… where we're headed, and that's why you won't even tell us the number of the dead, will you Dr. Cheever... But you'll tell your friends when to get out of Chicago before anyone else has a chance…"

How a virus changes the world
A very cute bonus feature on the "Contagion" DVDE. It also has a very good point, which can be helpful to you in *any* emergency.

Comment
Add a CommentTo be honest, I wasn't terribly disappointed to see Gwyneth Paltrow fall victim to the disease. Perhaps some "Annoying Celebrity Flu" may even develop - weed some of them out. Maybe the "Kardashian Virus"... The story had value and relevance to it. The frailty and fragility of humanity, and our delusional self serving conceited ignorance to that fact. The pace was a trifle plodding. Jude Law was good. This planet goes through periods of 'shedding its skin'... It purges its impurities and cleanses itself. Whether it's through wildfires; tidal waves; hurricanes; tornadoes; ice ages... Or bacteria. (Remember the 'Black Plague'?) It sloughs off its 'dead skin' (plant and animal life) like a snake. Molts its feathers like a bird. Out with the old, in with the new. Whatever metaphor you like, it goes through a rebirth, and we, as its residents, are at its mercy. Humanity is not immortal.
I was expecting a more sophisticated handling of the subject. Hollywood, as always expected, wants to sensationalize a pandemic with overt situations rather than heightened emotional dilemmas. A very predictable movie like this should have somehow utilized artistic license so as to have more originality and sophistication rather than a dramatization of events which we all know where it leads.
surprised but this movie was very boring!!
Usually, the movies with numerous mega-stars turns out to be a bomb. But not this one. Refreshing, engaging, and thoughtful come to mind. Its worth the view.
interesting style, may not appeal to all.
A realistic fore-taste of what we can expect in our over-populated mega-city factory farming future! Almost by-the-numbers retelling of the 1918 Spanish Flu epidemic ,.. but with a vacine to 'save the day',.. instead of just random genetic immunity burn-out, and a many-million fatality population 'adjustment'.
Up front: Never got around to watching the movie. I'm a bad consumer quite apparently, but I found it just massively annoying that I didn't seem to be able to get around all of the promos and trailers for the usual crap movies that the usual crap Hollywood distributors want to sell to me. What is it about being regarded as a 'captive audience' without recourse to something as simple as the Menu button that infuriates me so? Why do I object to being compelled to watch promo after promo after promo? Well, let's just leave it at that notion of "captive audience."
Above average global epidemic movie. Performances ranged from good to bad. No one ever really seemed to be hyper concerned that tens of millions of people were dying. I never really cared all that much myself. The concept was good and the movie had it's moments (too few for me to really overly like it) but I thought it was a bit flat. I was entertained enough to want to see it through to the end, but was kind of disappointed.
It was okay. Not as thrilling as I expected from such an all-star ensemble.
Movie was just "okay". Acting was fine, storyline was fine but I felt something was lacking- it just didn't grab me the way I thought it should. Yes, it is very important to do the old-fashioned-thing; washing your hands.
