Healers like Avry are accused of spreading the plague that has decimated the Fifteen Realms, leaving the survivors in a state of chaos. Stressed and tired from hiding, Avry is abducted by a band of rogues who, shockingly, value her gift above the golden bounty offered for her capture. Their leader, an enigmatic captor-protector with powers of his own, is unequivocal in his demands: Avry must heal a plague-stricken prince--leader of a campaign against her people. As they traverse the daunting Nine Mountains, beset by mercenaries and magical dangers, Avry must decide who is worth healing and what is worth dying for. Because the price of peace may well be her life"--Publisher.

Add a CommentI like all of Maria Snyder books and this one is a great start to another series. Can not wait for the next book....Scent of Magic!
new series by one of my favourite authors
Found this book in a library in Australia and read it in a single day. Engrossing and well thought-out, Snyder has created a fantastical post-apocalyptic fantasy world struggling to recover from a devastating plague. The central character is a young woman with a singular gift - the ability to magically heal others by taking on their pain - but there are some things even she can't cure... Published under the HarlequinTeen banner, I knew this would be a romance, but I didn't expect it to be such a well constructed story at the same time. Touch of Power comes complete with an epic quest and even a few zombies thrown in for good measure. For a harlequin book, there is plenty of tension but nothing you would have to hide from your kids. I enjoyed the story immensely and look forward to reading the next installment!
