Add a CommentI was prepared to be disappointed as I am a hude John Frusciante fan, but the new guitarist, Josh Klinghoffer, makes a decent contribution on a few tracks and the overall sound of the record has grown on me. On a few songs it almost feels like the songwriting has been influenced by the same principles behind Franz Ferdinand, for example, i.e. songs for girls to dance to...and that's fine by me!
A truly fine album from a band that has matured musically in astounding ways. I wondered how the band would fare minus John Frusciante but the music, if anything, has gone in very interesting directions, with major South American and jazz influences everywhere. Flea lays down the most intoxicating bass lines of any bassist out there and every song is built solidly upon his line. Highly recommended.
