First off, let's get somethjing straight, upfront. Abraham Lincoln was NOT a vampire hunter...never happened. That being said, I was only looking to this as a fluff read. You know, so bad it's good somehow? What I got however was a fast paced read mixing one of America's iconic leaders with vampires. Care was taken to make the story plausible, which is all I could hope for. Were there slow parts, or parts that were just underdeveloped? Yes. But throughout I found the book to be a colorful read, that kept me turning pages throughhout. The actual history in the book was treated fairly. Lincoln's early years; as a settler and merchant; his political career, winning the Presidency; the Civil War; and his assassination were covered. Also the turbulent and often tragic relationship with Mary Todd, the birth of three sons, having to bury two at an early age and Mary's break under the intense satrain of their life, were trated fairly. So a few vampires dropped bhy. No biggie! It was challenging to figure out where exactly the next plot twist was to come from But let's not treat this as a story of a larger than life man, which Abe still is. Let's remember to allow ourselves to laugh, and have fun with this rollicking good tale. I know I did!!

This is a really fun read! Great writing and good use of actual historical facts and people! I loved the "photographs"!

Basically a biography of Abe Lincoln, but with vampires. The two concepts were blended together really well, and made for a very interesting story!

Well-written. Interesting concept. History seems to have been well-researched. I learned something new - I'd heard many references over the years to the Dred Scott decision but just (while reading this book) learned what the decision actually was.

Mostly in narrative form with little dialogue. Starts slow, gets interesting with the bloody vampire scenes.

Finally! The story the history books didn't want you learn about. If you are a serious history buff you need to read this book. Abe Lincoln has never been more vividly or accurately brought to the page as in this account of his life.

Absolutely AMAZING! ^_^ I would highly recommend this book and have! lol It was interesting seeing how they blended the 2 worlds. Made me like Lincoln a whole lot more. I wouldn't be suprised if some readers wondered if it was true or not considering the way it's written. =]

In his most recent book Grahame-Smith takes on one of our most iconic presidents, Abraham Lincoln. We all know that Lincoln grew up splitting logs, was a young senator from Illinois and was known as “honest Abe.” But did you know that he was also a vampire hunter. Lincoln’s hunt for the undead started when his mother died at the hands of a vampire. He trained with the same axe that he used to chop wood, and became one of the most feared vampire hunters in the United States. When he was elected president, Lincoln used his power to emancipate the slaves that were the food source of vampires living in the south.
